Writer's Block: Random Acts of Kindness

Jul 11, 2007 19:45

As I was getting ready to log out, "LJ Home" asked me:
> What is one of the nicest things you've ever done for another person?

Hmmm... interesting question.

It depends on how you measure it.

Three different answers pop into my mind:
1) I let somebody and her son live in my condo for about a year and a half (while I lived else-where) with-out paying any rent. That pops into my mind because it is very recent.

2) I flew from NYC to SF CA to help out a friend who had a problem and said she would appreciate my help (after I asked her if she wanted my help) but she thought it was too much to ask me to do, but I did it anyways.

3) I risked my life to keep a small child from falling from a CTA elevated platform.

but # 3 doesn't really seem "kind" because I didn't think about it, I just did it... and that makes me think of a #4 (in the same category):

4) I chased a mugger down (several block long chase into an alley), wrestled them to the ground, hand-cuffed them (back about 8 or 9 years ago when I use to wear hand-cuffs on my "punk-rock leather coat"), made a citizen's arrest and returned a purse to a little old lady (no kidding).

I consider myself a kind person, someone who often does small and random "acts of kindness", but I do not think of myself as a "VERY nice" person - and sometimes (even often) I am very self-centered {a Christian might even say I am evil, but I don't believe in "evil" (for the most part)}.

How about you?
What is one of the nicest things you've ever done for another person?
or if you would rather answer:
What is one of the meanist things you've ever done to another person or animal? (remember, confession is good for the soul!;)

nicest thing, evil, kindness, writer's block
