So a lot is going on right now, and I'm not exactly sure I'm prepared for what is about to come. It looks like I'm going to be working 25 hours a week, and it will all be crammed on the weekends. You know, thats always something you have to watch out for at small venues like that...Usually the sound guys don't know their asses from a hole in the ground. You can almost guarantee the mix will be bad and the mics will be hot. It seemed like there were a couple times where you guys couldn't hear each other very well. Ugh, crappy sounds guys, the bane of any musicians existence.
I know how it is though, I've played a bunch of small venues, and spent a summer running sound boards. So, I've experienced it from both viewpoints. As a band you can be great, but if the sound guy sucks, you're doomed.
But anyway, after watching your YouTube video, I think you guys did pretty damn good considering you've only been playing a month. Keep up the good work, and to hell with crappy sound guys. He was probably using Peavey shit anyway. Ugh...Peavey
Also, Ed, I've got a book that covers the basics of set drumming and hand drumming. Its at home somewhere, but if I can dig it up I'll let you borrow it if you want it. I taught myself how to play out of it. Granted, I'm not awesome by any stretch of the imagination, but I found it helpful. For hand drumming, it covers the different types of drums, different strokes, and some basic patterns. I've personally never used it for hand drumming, but it should be fine if it covers it as well as it does the set drumming stuff.
