"Tonight's theme is: THEMES. WHAT GOOD ARE THEY?"

So I need a new desk, right, because I've been using the same rickety bit of carpentry since I was ten, and my legs don't fit under it anymore. My first instinct was to bungle about in the basement for something deskish, and I came out with the top of a table (the bottom of said table nowhere in sight). "Ah!" I said. "With some metal milk crates and scraps of wood, this could very nearly work!" And then I set about trying to bung it all together. About ten minutes in, my mom knocked on my door and said "We could go to Home Depot for some plywood or something, that might be easier."

Halfway through the car ride, she was, like, "Or we could...buy you an actual desk."

Ahahahah. Yes, we do forget that we're no longer poor.

We're going to Ikea tomorrow, since Walmart, KMart, Office Max, and National Wholesale Retailers were all sadly lacking in desks that did not look like Transformers halfway through the process of becoming a plane.

PS, I'd like to make a short film comprised entirely of faux man-on-the-street vox pops (a la A Little Bit of Fry and Laurie) and lingering, loving shots of those sticky action figures flipping down windows. It would be called "My Season of Loss" and would be subtitled with basic first-year Spanish phrases.

PPS, that article in the City Paper about Frankford was really horribly depressing. I didn't realize we were that sad. Hi, I'd like to move now, kthxbai.

PPPS, I ditched my mandatory student orientation yesterday in favor of a barbecue somewhere in the depths of New Jersey. The food was amazing. I also ditched today, and will most likely ditch tomorrow. I haven't started classes and I'm already blowing off school. I WIN. Remind me to show you guys my ID picture, it reaches new heights of unintentional hilarity.

PPPPS, after hearing "Ain't No Nigga" followed by a Patsy Cline song, my life changed. I will never listen to Reasonable Doubt (or Patsy Cline) the same way again. Thank you, Cassie.

YOUR MOM WRITES POST SCRIPTS IN BED. I skimmed through my hotmail account and read what seemed interesting/important (i.e., not LJ comments), then BALETED the rest. If you said something on LJ somewhere that you think I should read or whatever, do comment here. I have nothing against LJ comments, or LJ comment emails, but I'd totally forgotten to check that shit for like six months and 249 emails is way too many. I got scurred, yo.
