I am finding it a little hard to read.
I picked up a book by James Kunstler from the library the other day, because I thought it would help me with my upcoming research paper for my intro class. I'm having a hard time getting through it. It isn't slow going. And it is written in anything but academe. It is difficult because it rings so true that it feels like I'm reading it 100+ years in the future. I was reading it and it was vertiginous. This was unintentionally heavy handed, but it felt like I had picked up a dusty book from the ground and starting reading about the people who used to live here...except those people were us. Thinking about it, it was like a looping "oh shit, he's right. It's too late for us. But it's not too late for us" feeling. However, it did make me feel satisfied about the path I am taking. If it was not 10 o'clock at night, I'd be furiously studying (the power-walking of the academic path) for my upcoming midterms.
Unfortunately, I didn't get this burst of enthusiasm until now. I could have gotten so much more done today than just the completion of a take-home midterm.
