Wow - it has been since my birthday that I have posted here. My non-fannish life has really been busy, and keeping up online with them has eaten most of my time.
Since my last post, I have made the decision to retire. April 1, 2010 will be my retirement date. It would have been Dec 31st, but my guilt about leaving my work in a lurch got the better of me. Boss promised to hire behind me before I go so I can train my replacement on a pair of critical annual tasks that culminate in March. It may be mis-placed dedication, but I will leave with a clear conscious. I will have nearly 35.5 years with the federal gov't, and a career that I feel content and satisfied with.
Another momentous event was the graduation of my youngest from university last Thursday. It took 5 years, but with his substantial ADHD I am so proud that he kept with it and finished. I never mentioned that while he was at University in New Zealand, he was selected International Student of the Year! And he was there for the B session (2nd) so he beat out anyone else who was there the first semester. He is job hunting, but has a couple of nibbles. He is networking within the rugby community (2 have already asked hm to give them his resume) and several people in the SCA have asked when we told them this weekend at an event (camping). He gave me permission to brag as much as I wanted this weekend. And this seems to have encouraged his sister to get more serious about returning to University College (an adult oriented university were the classes can be taken either online or at night and weekends) and finishing her degree. She knows that the good jobs need that piece of paper. I am encouraging the retired husband to go back ad take classes under the University of Maryland Golden ID program, where he can take classes without tuition. We could become a very knowledgeable family [g].
We are having a little cake and grill party for the graduate and our close friends tomorrow, and I need to get busy and excavate the downstairs in preparation.
