Stressing about New Zealand

Jun 10, 2007 12:10

At least stressing about getting the son-unit ready for his semester abroad in Hamilton, NZ. His financing is slow, and his visa is still hanging fire. The program that is arranging this (Australearn) says everything is still good, but he leaves on the 26th! He's packing suitcases and weighing them to keep his weight down. He is taking the sister-unit shopping with him to get new clothes so that he looks cool, or whatever today's equivalent is. He doesn't want to look like a tourist. Actually, he looks like a blond Maori at nearly 6'5" and large. He plans to play rugby at every opportunity, although he realistically doesn't expect to play on the college team as he does here, but thinks he can get on a recreational team.

We have a position in the local SCA group that has been keeping us really jumping this year. I have an entirely separate lj for thee activities as I need to keep these parts of my life separate for my sanity. Dragon*Con, ZebraCon, Darkover and a small get-together in Tennessee are my escapes this year to remind myself that life exists outside the SCA. I am really looking forward to seeing my fannish friends and renewing these connections.
