"We have tried to deliver a package to your home on 20th Oct*. We will try again at the first working day after this date between 12:00 and 18:00**. Should you be unavailable when we call, we will leave notice where you can pick up the package***. Unfortunately, it will not be possible to pick up the package before then****."
*Like people don't usually work during the day?
**Again, people don't usually work at this hour?
***The post office, where the packages you can't deliver always end up, because you are the postal service.
****Can you say in-con-ve-ni-ent?
I hope this package contains a phone. I confess. I'm dependent. I never thought I would be, and really I can survive without. But having no phone whatsoever is just so freaking inconvenient!
My mother, in a phone conversation we had from work, yesterday:
"And of course, you can call when you arrive at the station."
"Er... no... I can't."
"Why not?"
*meaningful silence*
*expectant silence*
"Mom? I don't have a phone right now, remember?"
Me to my mother, today, on MSN:
"... and they tried to deliver what I hope is a phone but I wasn't there, naturally. They'll try again this afternoon but I start work at 2."
"Can't you call them?"
"Moooooooooooooom! No! I can't! Duh!"
"Oh. Right."
