Despite it being a rather standard gift...

...I really do like my "My sister went to SPAIN and all I got was this lousy t-shirt" t-shirt.

Visited the Dutch Champions for teams yesterday, to observe the "high-risk" games as part of my preperation for the referee-exam. I'm not a particular risk-factor myself so I rarely get to experience fireworks when competing. I'm lucky that way.

A few factors which contributed yesterday:
  • Team event: Team spirit does crazy things, especially when it includes supporters. Add to this the traditional "feud" between a few fencing clubs and you've got an image.
  • Foil: [usual disclaimers apply] Foilists are nags. Period. [/usual disclaimers apply]
  • Dutch Championships: As far as internal prestige in the Dutch fencing world goes, this one's big.
Chatted with N. from the referee course for a bit, and after a game from 'her' team we went up for a drink. She offered tea, which I accepted, and then she commanded E. to buy it. Hee.

After that, watched the Rana-Ter Weer game, from the Rana-corner because it offered the best view. I think I may have strained my right eardrum. Never saw that many cards in my life. I guess it has been a sheltered one in this aspect, as well.

After that, skipped the Rana-Scaramouche game to support DFC, the members of which were having an abysmal day. Ended up in last place, where they don't belong, bless them.

Then watched someone lose it completely in the Schermcentrum Amsterdam-Scaramouche final. Seriously, if his self-control had slipped any further his head would have exploded. A trashcan was sent flying etc. His teammates switched him for someone else - good call.

After that, watching sabre was a welcome rest.

In short, I hope I'm going to get muuuuch practice before anyone decides it would be a good idea to give me explosive matches.

social, family, fencing, tournament, wtf?
