My university still hasn't sent me a response to my email regarding insurance. I will call them again tomorrow. Oh uni admin, how I did not miss thee.
Work has given me a whopping two shifts for next week. Unimpressed. I believe it is unspoken punishment for not accepting a shift yesterday when the girl who was supposed to work canceled. And now I am probably going to enrage a lot of feminists out there but this girl is a stunning example of my belief that contrary to what a lot of women like to think, having kids does impact your work abilities. This woman has two young children and has to cancel or alter at least 50% of her shifts. While yes this is retail and not corporate cut-throat, but a certain amount of reliability is expected. And now I am the one being punished because I couldn't cover the shift she was supposed to work because her kid was sick.
I lost three hours of work last week because I agreed to change shifts with this girl. She was supposed to arrange it that my new shift would be the same length as my old one but when I get to work I discover that nope, I'm missing out on valuable moolah because I was doing her a favour.
Anyway, this is the last straw for me. I am calling temp agencies tomorrow and applying for reception work. I've been straight up with my bosses about jobs and university and it gets me nowhere. I have bills to pay and cannot keep bouncing from five shifts a week down to two. It makes it impossible to budget.
On a random note, I watched an episode of House tonight where the guy who did the voice for Mufasa played an mass-murdering African dictator. I kept ending all of his sentences with either "the circle of life" or "Siiiimbaaaa". Hey, I was amused.
