Well, that was An Experience. On so many levels.
Usually before embarking on an unknown trek I check Google Maps directions against my street directory and make sure I'm familiar with the general layout. I got distracted and didn't this morning, hoping for the best. While Google did get me there, it decided to take me off the main roads and through farmland and Pothole County, NSW. Oh, what lovely smells there are out there! So many different varieties of manure!
I went through no less than four road work sites, one almost resulting in being flattened by a tractor. They gave me the "Go Slow" signal and so I started moving forward until realising there is a Big Yellow Tractor rumbling its way toward me, ripping up the tarmac as it came. After a bit of flailing I was able to squish into a ditch on the side of the road.
I got lost around three times, I would become so focussed on not veering off the road and into oblivion that I would forget to look for street names.
Finally, I found Birdsview St. Except I then couldn't find no 32. Why do bushland homesteads insist on not following each other consecutively??? I could find 26, 30 and 36 but no 32. I ended up parking my car in another precarious ditch and wandering up and down the road looking for this mysterious 32. I got yelled at by a woman who spoke barely any English and no one seemed to be at home to help me. I started to worry this was all a set up and I had just wasted an hour driving nowhere. Eventually the guy whose agapanthas I was collecting answered his phone and told me that it was actually 36 I was looking for, not 32. THANKS FOR GETTING YOUR OWN ADDRESS RIGHT GUYS.
The drive back home was much swifter as I was vaguely familiar with the area and thus able to stay on the main roads and avoid Bumpkintown.
I now have twenty potless agapanthus (agapanthuses? agapanthi?) sitting on a tarp in the back yard. Yay.
