Last night was a big tv-watching night for me. Wednesday has been for several years now and last night, starting at 8:00 with the season premier of Ghost Hunters, then the season premier of Destination:Truth, then the season finale of Project Runway and after that I caught Dr. G, Medical Examiner. I was watching tv until midnight, except that halfway through Dr. G I got the strange urge to go play with my hair. Around midnight though I knew I had to go to bed or I would be sorry the next day. So I brushed the crimps out of my hair and got ready for bed. I went downstairs to pull my shades, turn everything off and get a glass of water for my bedside table. I got the water first and pulled the blinds in the kitchen then moved to the living room. I approached the first window and glanced outside when something weird happened...a curious trick of the mind. At first, for a split second, the scene out the window appeared exactly as I expected it...then something moved. Two large silhouetted shapes appeared right in front of me just on the other side of the window. My heart stopped and I cried out. There's nothing quite like living alone to make you realize just how un-protective window glass is. But then I started to breath again when I realized the shapes weren't murderous burglars, but two huge, beautiful deer. I stared at them and they stared nervously at me. I froze, trying not to scare them, but the damage was already done. They turned and trotted across the street where they met up with two buddies, equally as large and in quite good shape. I make note of that because not all the deer I've seen in my yard have been as healthy-looking. I am still pretty well withing what most people would consider "city," the houses here being pretty close together, but I am on the fringe of a large park. The deer trotted down the street and passed back between the houses a couple of lots down from me that do not have fenced back yards, although that hasn't stopped them from getting in my backyard at all, they clear my fence easily if they want back there and I've seen them do it. Needless to say the jolt of adrenaline did no help me wanting to get to sleep.
