So back in the day my old friend Jonas got me into fantasy via the infamous Dragonlance novels, specifically Tanis: The Shadow Years. I read many DL books after that, some good, a few great, most of 'em forgettable. I've still got my sizeable collection of the books and I maintain my love for the kender race (they're not halflings, dammit!).
So I'm bopping around on
Ain't It Cool News and I come across a posting regarding the Voltron DVDs that are coming out. I go in, ogle the Blue Lion set, and scroll down. For my part, I noticed that Nickelodeon has given Avatar: The Last Airbender a third season. Dana, however, sees something different...
ICV2 reports that Paramount will be producing an animated featured based on Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman's Dragonlance fantasy novels. Lucy Lawless has said that she will be voicing the character Goldmoon.
Oh geez. The long-rumoured Dragonlance picture is apparently on, and they've gotten someone utterly horrible to play Goldmoon. Lucy Lawless was barely adequate as Xena, and since Goldmoon doesn't talk much and is usually a very serene character, this fits about as much as Carrot Top would in the role of Raistlin Majere.
The only other confirmed casting is Michael Rosenbaum (Lex Luthor on "Smallville" and the voice of The Flash in "Justice League") is Tanis Half-Elven, and Jason Marsden as Tasslehoff Burrfoot. If he wrecks Tas I will personally track him down and... do... something really unpleasant to him.
I loved DL when I was younger, and yes it borrows HEAVILY from Lord of the Rings, something its creators have never denied. Some things should remain books, however, and I believe Dragonlance is one of them.
...
I'll see you at the theatre when it comes out, then?
