My desire to watch sport fluctuates greatly for various reasons. But the World Cup is an event I've really been looking forward to and I was happy to have time today to watch my first game. And what a weird one it was too.
England and Japan were more closely matched than I expected and a rather meh first half was enlivened only by Miyama's cool delivery of a free kick into the back of England's net. Both teams got more active in the second half though. England would've scored heaps of goals at this point...if the goal had been two metres wider on either side. :-/
It seemed like the game was going nowhere. But then England's great hope,
Kelly Smith, turned on the magic and scored. And two minutes later, scored again! 2-1 and England was set to cruise through the final minutes.
With the final touch of the match, Miyama scores with another great free kick. What the hell?! It's a draw. Well, that makes up for the first half though I doubt the English team will share my feelings. Wow ow.
It will be very interesting to see how England do against the strong German team on Friday. I'd pick the Germans to win after their humiliation of Argentina, but I picked England to win this one too, so I'd better shush.
