After the
non-existent Germans Uwe and M had left, I noticed that a third can of wasabi peas (don't ask) had appeared on top of the two that they'd already given to me...
M had arrived on Friday struggling with a heavy suitcase and it was soon apparent why. They had brought Food. Apart from the wasabi peas, there were two bags of nut corners[1] and a loaf of potato bread from M's region which she had baked herself. I'm sure I've left something off the list.
[1] Properly called Nussecken.
M had put in a request for some real English food, so after racking my brain I managed to supply curry, pie and a
"cream tea" over the course of their visit. All that food was definitely necessary with all the walking we did.
On Saturday, we went to Kew Gardens and took it in turns to run round with Linnea which was a lot of fun. Seven adults to one toddler is a good ratio. I also managed to snaffle a long hold of baby Emer. There's something so soothing about sitting down in the grass with a sleeping baby.
An alt.fan.pratchett meet was organised for that evening by
Countertony in the only Dutch pub in London (one is enough). I got to talk (well, shout) to a number of people who I don't get to normally which is always nice.
Also, at some point in the window-shopping spree, Uwe, M and me went to Spitalfields Market, which hasn't gone too polished and touristy yet, but I'm not sure what it'll be like after the renovations. The market was in some disarray, but Uwe and M bought some handmade-in-the-UK chocolate from
Montezuma's, which I hope made up for it.
