After only three days of looking, we have a flat!
We arrived in London on Tuesday afternoon and immediately had two viewings. Both flats were fine, if you were a mole. Then there was the midget's flat on Wednesday (no comments about my stature, you in the cheap seats). The fourth flat we saw that day was okay and we were prepared to take it. The real estate agent didn't want to show us that one at first because she didn't think we would like it. As we neared the flat, she remarked that there were a lot of black people. And here was me thinking that they were white people who'd overdone it in the tanning beds.
We'd already set up viewings for Thursday so went ahead with them. First up was a flat over a bar. This real estate agent assured us that noise would be no problem because the bar been told to be quiet. Despite being of a kind and trusting nature, I had taken the libery of perusing the posters hanging in the windows of that fine establishment. They advertised live music every single night. Strike another one off the list.
So we didn't hold out much hope for the second flat of the afternoon. She wasn't that keen on showing it to us because the interior wasn't as nice as the first flat. I'm trying to figure out if that was code for, "I want to get rid of the flat over the bar" or "there are lots of black people living near the second flat". Should I find it more depressing that neither of the real estate agents were white?
Anyway, we struck gold on the second flat she showed us. It was much better than the first one we were going to take. We signed the contract today and picked up the keys, so it's all go.
