Quite like this by Albert Geertjes, though the magazine Boek where I first saw it has a nicer photo.

That's a lot of money for what you'd get. I imagine the name of the maker costs a fair bit, though. I hope they're made from beech (aka "bok" in Swedish, which is spelled the same way as "book" in Swedish).

As it happens, a friend's dad made a couple of bedside tables like that some time in the 70's.

At that price, it's certainly going to take a certain amount of care to get books that cost as much as the shelving they go into.

Sadly, there's no info on the type of tree.

Sadly2, book and beech aren't the same in Dutch. Though Google did ask if I meant beukenboom when I searched for the boekenboom.

They look very hip, but they don't look very useful for the kind of book storage requirements people who, well, own more than a few books need. (As an example - chrysaphi's D.Phil supervisor, who has pretty much every wall of his apartment lined with IVAR shelving for bulk storage of books and is still running out of space. Yes, there are even books in the kitchen. Fortunately, chrysaphi is still a mere apprentice academic book-hoarder, but we're still buying bookshelves on the assumption that they'll get grown out of and need expanding.))

These book trees seem to be more for show than storage. Nice to look at, but I don't feel a great urge to have them in my house. Where, incidentally, the shelving is evenly divided between IVAR and Billy.

Wouldn't the books in the kitchen get grubby with cooking residues? Or are they hidden away in cupboards?

We're dealing with Oxford academics here. What do you mean, cooking?
