The White Stuff

Heaps has already been written about the snow, but as people are asking... The recent snow hasn't been too much of a bother. London, and certainly East London, is too warm to have and keep a lot of snow. There's a couple of inches on the ground from the last two days, much of which had turned into ice today. The spectacular photos in the media abroad generally come from the rest of the UK.

My own photos from Victoria Park are less exciting, but it's been very pretty out there recently. Here's me making friends with one of the park's many snow people:

Two Spanish women asked me to take a photo of them with their handiwork and returned the favour by having me pose with it too. It was the first experience of snow for one of them.

Sometimes, going by the reaction, you'd think it was the first time London had experienced snow too (instead of just last year). It's been an offense to Wingnut's tidy Dutch soul to see the lack of gritting, the snow left on the roofs of moving cars, etc. His ' London cycling verdict main roads clear, smaller roads lethal. In the space of 2m they go from cyclable to "Mr. Gravity will see you now".' Fortunately, he only banged his hip and elbow, so he got back on his bike, cycled off, and then had to go back to check on the next cyclist who'd come a cropper on the curve. Ah gravity, thou art a heartless bitch.
