I have to admit watching a documentary about him on the BBC that seemed to be entirely intended to make you go 'well, maybe he's not such a bad egg after all, I say.' My republican credentials will be in tatters, between that and a documentary last night on the Queen's wedding last night! Although, for that one, I have the reason that a friend of mine from Brighton was being interviewed for it, because her thesis is on the designer :>

There was a fair bit about the Prince's Trust and so forth but in the end, it still came down to "poor Charles" for the Dutch. :-) Until I saw that programme, I hadn't realised that, by law, Elizabeth has to reign 'til she dies. Though presumably that could be changed if she wanted.

I presume she would be able to abdicate, the way that her uncle did, but it would still be an enormous scandal. I'm not sure if she would ever do it, though, being such a traditionalist herself.
