Paddling to New Zealand
by kayak is out, so I've been researching
carbon offsetting for my flights. I think I'll need to offset the aspirin usage for the headache acquired too. It's a maze of twisty criticisms, all alike.
There was an article in The Guardian some time ago about putting money into projects like improved kerosene(?) lanterns somewhere in Africa. It saves on emissions, is less expensive for users to buy and lessens the health risks for them. This appeals more than tree planting schemes, of which many have come in for heavy criticism.
As far as I can tell, the
Gold Standard label gives the best guarantee that a carbon offset project will be useful. From the list of those offering Gold Standard projects, I think I'll pick
Climate Friendly, purely because they also donate to the WWF, which is the nominated charity for my brother's wedding.
