I can't wait anymore. I need to get this stuff out of my head; since watching 4x01 last night, it's all I've been thinking about today.
Hopefully, a few of you other Old Ladies might feel the same. So throw on some leather and slide your denim-clad asses onto the nearest bar stool for a drink, a few laughs and a bit of a chat about all things SAMCRO for a while.
We'll definitely be talking about THIS guy:
as well as plenty of others, but I needed to have this pic at my journal; I'm sure you can understand, yeah? :o)
What a fantastic start to this season. If there's one thing I love about this show, it's the almost faultless choices they make when it comes to the musical soundtrack for each of the episodes. It adds so much to the fleshing out and inner mental processes of a character, or giving a particular moment or event more weight or impact. Take for example, the song used to open 4x01: Joshua James, 'Coal War' :

I don't know about you but that song made the hair on my arms stand on end. I loved the way the camera lingered on the guys getting into their street clothes, not for THAT reason. Well, almost not putting the pieces of their SOA 'armour' back on; the big rings, the belts and chains, and finally, outside the prison gate, their beloved leather cuts and helmets before sitting astride their bikes. *fangirl sigh* :)
But back to the episode - the guys are all out, 14 months have passed and life as we (and they) knew it has changed a LOT. Development has arrived via the plans of now-Mayor Hale, and the Charming PD has been swallowed up by the San Joaquin Sherriff Dept, meaning Wayne Unser is out and a new Chief of Police is in; one Eli Roosevelt, or as most of us remember him, C-Note. You feelin' me? LOL.
Just wanted to jot down a few things that stood out for mine:
* Holy shit, Jax cut his hair. And those three scars are mighty close to his heart, aren't they? Looks like he was lucky to survive.
* Loved the way they exited the prison, giving Stockton the finger as they rode past.
* I'll never look at boiled eggs the same way again. OMG.
* That new District US Attorney seems a bit of strange fellow -- not sure what to make of him as yet.
* Hate Mayor Hale with the fire of a thousand suns. He's as corrupt as they come. With ridiculous hair. Pfft.
* Tara, on the other hand, looks a lot softer with her new haircut and a lot more attractive. Even the Foxx Man commented on her new appearance. Just as long as she doesn't get blonde streaks in the front like Gemma, then I'm good. Tara seems more at ease with herself and her place in the MC, not to mention her relationship with Gemma.
* Abel is so cute!!
* Gemma and her visit with Wayne just killed me. Gah. So, so sad. He has deteriorated so much since not being Chief of Police, as well as trying to fight cancer on no meds, ffs. Seeing him break down like that when Gemma was there was heartbreaking. I almost expected her to take him home and look after him or something. But no. She sent Clay over instead. *sigh* Poor Wayne has sacrificed so much for the MC and I think Gemma's right - the club DO owe him. Love their relationship.
* LOL at the contrast between Jax/Tara and Gemma/Clay in bed. Yeah, Clay, you WERE fast. LOL. And thank God we didn't see YOUR ass. Can you tell that I'm not a big fan of his?
* Clay is looking to cash out, and asap. IMO, he is only looking out for himself and Gemma, and certainly not making decisons in the best interests of the MC, as per the Club mantra. He's getting old and he knows his time is running out. He's gonna be a real prick this season, I just know it.
* Jax and Tara are engaged!! *squee* I am a huge Jax/Tara shipper and this part sent my little fangirl heart flailing. Of course, it won't be as cut and dried for Jax to leave SAMCRO as he wants it to be. Despite Piney's wish that history should stay dead, you know it's not gonna. Jax is an idealist and a deep thinker, and probably more like his father (in some ways) than he actually realises. Can't wait to see how he reacts to the contents of John Teller's letters to Maureen.
* And had to mention the new CoP-Note - while he seems like he's a straight up and down guy, perhaps he could be a realist too, given his prior work with gangs. As in knowing that dealing with SAMCRO and upholding the law may mean a bit of give and take, on both sides. We'll see. One thing though, I don't hate Rockmond Dunbar in this anywhere near as much as I did in Prison Break, so that's gotta be a plus!
* Gotta love a biker wedding, dontcha? Tatts, leather and plenty of skin are all essential. Opie looked so sweet, with his stumbling over vowing to protect her; Donna must have been in his thoughts during that brief moment. And did you notice that while Lyla pledged to be faithful, Opie didn't? Loved the bit about loving her as much as his leather and riding her as much as his Harley, lol. Hilarious.
* Gemma and Wayne dancing at the wedding. Noice.
* Holy shit - all those bodies - dead!
* And yet another faultless choice of song to end the episode: 'What a wonderful world' by Alison Mossheart.

* Otto shanks the Russian in prison as payback for Jax. Just ewwww. Especially with all those squelchy sound effects!
* The Russians all dead, INCLUDING the FBI undercover man. Uh oh. There goes the Feds plan up in smoke right there.
* Jax shanks the Putlev dude, the same way as he was shived in prison. Payback, SAMCRO style.
* And the big killer, for me, anyway - Gemma finds Maureen's note about John's letters to Jax. HOLY CRAP.
* And afterwards, they all have another drink and reflect. As you would. :o)
So what did you think? Did you like it? Do you think it sets up the season well? Discuss.
