friends, food, and fighting with family

Have very much enjoyed hanging out with my two oldest friends, one of whom flew up from Florida to spend a couple of days with us. It's lovely to have people where you can not see each other for a long period of time but immediately fall back into a comfortable space, knowing you can talk about things both light and difficult, people you have a long history with. I haven't always been a good friend (ah, I can number all my flaws) but we've weathered the years in pretty good style, I think. Twenty-two years is a pretty good thing.

I'll have a little more time with my friend who still lives in the area, including what looks like some prime cat-cuddling time. She has a herd of fluffy cats, including a leggy orange Maine Coon mix that I'd like to steal.

Family, of course, means my sister and my mom, and my sister's boyfriend and his family (who kindly invited us to their weekly family meal tonight). I've already spent some quality time with them and look forward to more, but I've already had one of those awful discussions with my mom where I stepped on a land mine I was completely oblivious to, and had to figure out a way to calm the waters. So. Everything proceeding as usual, I suppose. Good times with my sister, the same old wary dance with my mother, where I swing wildly between being happy to be spending time with her and wanting to push her out a window.

And food, well...we've been eating like crazy. Kebabs, teriyaki, tempura, Italian, a trip to the H-Mart and World Market. It's all so wonderful, and is one of the biggest things I miss being away from the area.

oh well that's not so bad then, fourfootfuzzy, food, traveling
