I've decided that this post will conform to my more usual posting schemes. That is combining three random thoughts together. Enjoy.
For school the other day I got a printer-scanner-copier, I've been told this is a three in one. I don't see how, anything that can scan and print should by DEFAULT be able to copy, and so I don't see the need to add "copier" to its repertoire. It all seems very extremely redundant. ;)
In a positive I can now draw and easily have my work converted into digital images, which is in a way exciting.
On another note the university is starting to gouge my parents. In the past month and a half they have demanded over $5000 and I haven't even gotten to tuition yet. I haven't heard from anyone else whether or not they were being royally violated in the same way, so I was just wondering if anyone else was on board.
I just posted on a friend's LJ the following:
"Myspace seems to be a centre for people to whine and complain about their insignificant family problems in a melodramatic fashion. That or for 13 year old girls to provide sexualized images, get assaulted or harassed by pedophiles and then end up on Dateline's "To Catch a Predator." I'll tell you how to avoid being caught by a predator - STOP BEING BAIT."
Incidents of pedophilia from anecdotal evidence appears to be on a dramatic rise. This is really hard to measure of course, it seems to me we may have no basis for measurement outside of modern times when the word pedophilia came into existence. Until very recently young teenage girls married much older men. In Spain the minimum age for marriage was 14 until very recently. In the United States the age is still 16, as in Canada, but you require parent's consent. Therefore historically it is not unknown for much older men to have... relationships with younger girls. It is now, thank goodness, a taboo.
Have you ever looked through some people's blogs? It's very disturbing linking the age to the behaviour, see rainbow parties.
I'm such a prude by modern standards, and I feel like I comment on this too often but I find it perhaps the most insidious part of our modern culture. Gross. There's a South Park episode where Paris Hilton pays a visit to open her clothing store, the name is Stupid Spoiled Whore, and all the girls in town except Wendy dress in the clothing while she protests the objectification of women and that Hilton is not in fact a role model for young girls. What a ridiculous storyline, that could never happen in real life.
At work I was talking with co-workers about our least favourite types of customers, the answer seemed unanimous, young stupid spoiled Tweens/Teens. One labelled them "Prostitots" a combination of the words prostitute and toddler/tot. This name seemed appropriate, I added that I disliked the mini-pimps.
Fine, kids can act anyway they like.
