It had been a pretty mundane day for Gintoki. Nothing much to do other than going up and around the castle and entertaining a few nobles when it was necessary. He wouldn't be much of a court jester now if he didn't do his job now, after all. At least his jokes (as bad as they were) managed to lighten a few heavy hearts around the place. The smiles and laughs always made his job so worth it.

Evening had come though, and most of the nobles had already retired after dinner. Gintoki had made sure there was nobody awake left to entertain before he decided it was high time for himself to go to bed as well, and took off his hat to stuff it in one of his pockets as he permitted himself to wander around the hallways aimlessly for a bit before going off to his quarters. His room was right after where the servant's ones were and so the silver-haired man passed by as always, about to whistle a tune when his eye caught someone standing at one of the hallways, looking rather seemingly annoyed.

Well, well. If it wasn't Toshirou~

Gintoki only paused for a moment to look in slight surprise at the dark-haired man before a thought crossed his mind and the jester grinned, an idea quickly forming in his otherwise usually empty head. Ever so quietly, the man snuck up towards the other man, tiptoeing across the hallway until he reached from behind and threw his arms around the servant, one hand covering his eyes. The man grinned as he leaned in close and chirped into his ear. "Guess who~"

Apparently being made a servant for the week hadn't lessened Hijikata's general dislike for surprises. The man stiffened and pulled away harshly, brandishing the broom he was holding like a sword and nearly taking Gintoki's head off with it in the process. Blue eyes narrowed in annoyance as he recognized the man responsible for his jangled nerves. As if the day had not been tasking enough...

"What the Hell are you up to, Fool?"

Gintoki quickly backed away when Hijikata turned around, still grinning impishly from ear to ear and totally unperturbed about the fact that the servant had almost (almost) loped his head off with a broom. Instead he put on the most innocent face he could muster (which he knew would never work on someone like the servant) at that moment and glanced to the side, pursuing his lips as he replied. "Well I was just on my way back to my room and saw a certain grumpy servant sulking in the corridors and thought I'd come over and try and cheer him up~"

Okay, so that wasn't really how things went, but hey, it certainly sounded better than what really happened. Which was pretty close to the truth anything. This just sounded more suitable.
