The sound of her footsteps announced her presence, but Chae was nothing if not polite. She stopped just as she came to the front flap of the tent, then leaned towards the opening. "Leto? I got your message, I came as soon as I could manage." Stepping into the tent carefully, bringing her head up to face her recent teacher, the man who had added gray to her black-and-white view of the world.

"What did you ne--" She cut herself off, her eyes falling on the knives in his hands. She recognized them, from when he first exposed her to Spice; they were crysknives. She didn't know all of the significance behind the weapon, but from the way Leto had handled one in the past, she knew that, for him to have two, there had to be something important. Her ears flicked back slightly. "Leto, what's wrong?"

Leto stopped and spun towards her. He knew he had to start talking now or he'd never have the strength to tell her. He looked uncharacteristically sad at her. Somehow he wished he could still shed tears.

"Chae, these are Crysknives, my people's sacred weapon, forged from sandworm's teeth. They're my gift to you.
This one..." And he held out the one in his left hand, gleaming and new, unblooded. "...Is for your own use. And this..." He held out the other. It was still sharp, but older, grayer. "...Is...was mine. Fremen legend says that the Crysknife contains part of it's owner's soul. If I die, it will dissolve."

He walked his loping walk closer to her. Somewhere outside, multicolored crickets chirped. "You're going to keep a piece of my soul because i'm leaving this place soon."

Chae watched him close the distance between them, talking about the knives in his hands. She nodded as he held out one to her, and reached to grasp the hilt. Bringing it closer to her face, she examined the blade. "Thank you, but I'll probably nev--" Again, she cut herself off, listening to Leto's explanation of the second knife. His soul? If he dies? She tilted her head a touch, her hand beginning to reach out, until the next words were spoken.

"Leaving? How? Is this... one of your premonitions?" Her hand reflexively drew back, the warrior fading in lieu of the young girl within. "...are you sure?" If he was paying attention, Leto would have noticed a slight tremble in those last words. Even though she had only known Leto for a few months since she had come to Sieben, he was very important in her life; one could even say he had become special to her. Understandably, the sudden announcement wasn't going to sit well. "...Are you... somehow choosing to go back?"

Leto was trained to detect sudden differences in demeanor. Her shock didn't go unnoticed to him. "The strongest one yet. It's not a future I can prevent this time. I will somehow be tossed through that hole, back into my own universe ( ... )
