Sakata pissed him off. Hijikata grumbled under his breath as he went around his room, gathering bandages, salves, and medicines he'd managed to find the supplies for in Sieben. He was a stupid jackass, the sort that stole poetry books and didn't think things through and ran off on his own, let his stubborn pride endanger people.

But he was a stupid, stubborn jackass who had helped Hijikata out in the past, kept his subordinates safe from harm...and Hijikata repaid his debts. That was a matter of pride, too, after all...

He kicked the door open, slammed it shut behind him (of would have, if straw doors slammed;really, it only made a fwooshing sort of noise), and stormed over to Sakata's door, bundle of supplies in his arms. Not bothering to knock, he opened the door and went in. "Dumbass," he grunted, by way of greeting.

The freelancer hardly batted an eyelid when Hijikata came stomping into the room, his mind really too tired to be surprised now. Despite the apparent annoyance of the other, he did know that in a way, Ogichi did have some level of concern for him. He really did remind the man of his own Hijikata, really - that all seemed the same, no matter whatever world they all seemed to be from.

...and besides, as much as the yorozuya himself was not that all fond of the Shinsengumi, he really had no desire to see anyone of them dead. Just like him, this was their way of the samurai... even if Zura and Takasugi couldn't see it. He hoped they would be able to, some time... as it was for now though, Gintoki only weakly raised a hand a waved slightly in greeting. "Yo."

It was a relief to see Sakata hadn't brought any of his terrorist friends over. He wasn't actively practicing any sort of medicine anymore, but he knew it would probably distress the patient if he killed anyone in front of him, and Takasugi and Katsura had been wearing his already-insignificant tolerance quite thin of late.

The vice-commander sat down near Gintoki, annoyance clearly written in the lines of his face. "That would be all you've got to say for yourself," he grumbled, unstopping a jar of clean water and pouring some onto a cloth. Damned fool, just like all the other damned fools he had to babysit constantly...

"Am I supposed to say anything then, Ogichi-kun?" Gintoki replied back lightly with a weak chuckle that quickly turned into a short fit of coughing. He really must be weak to even let something like this exhaust him so damn easily... It quickly settled down soon enough though and the freelancer looked up from the hand covering his mouth, panting a little for needed air.

As far as the yorozuya was concerned, he wasn't much of a mood to really retort to Hijikata and only watched quietly as the man did what he did while Gintoki himself lay comfortably on his bed, petting Shiroi a few more times before telling him to go off for a bit and tiredly gazing up at the ceiling, his mind still threatening to black out at any given chance.

"No," Hijikata replied, wringing out the extra water. "You're supposed to sit quietly and let me take care of what I came here for." He shook his bangs out of his face, leaned in, and frowned.

"I'm going to need to be able to get at the cuts," he grumbled, indicating Gintoki's long pants and the blood on his shirt.

Gintoki had to frown a little himself in return, clearly unamused by the response. "Oy oy, you'd better be glad I'm not doing anything more." Not that he could do anything else, really - just about all of his strength had been sapped clean by the battle. He barely had even enough energy to stay awake as it was.

The yorozuya followed the other's gaze, looking stonily at what he had to do now. Okay, so this had really not crossed his mind... pulling himself up tiredly into a sitting position on the bed, Gintoki shrugged out of his sable shirt to reveal numerous cuts and slash wounds, all still rather fresh and bleeding. Ignoring them though, he bent down to roll up his pants, right calf exposing one particularly nasty gash that was healing rather slowly. Evidently the exhaustion had affected his regenration abilities as well...

Taking quick stock of Gintoki's wounds in his mind, Hijikata began to clean them. He'd take care of the torso first, so the lazy bastard could lie down while he saw to the limbs..."It wouldn't be advisable. I'd have no trouble treating you after I knocked you out."

With surprising delicacy and not-so-surprising precision, he wiped away the blood and anything else dirty near the cuts. His hands were less skilled than a professional healer's, but well enough practiced. When he finished that step, he reached for a jar of a salve he'd made to aid healing and ward off infection, spreading it liberally over the cuts.

"I'll be sure to keep that in mind then," Gintoki laughed out weakly, coughing a little at the action. The battle really had got him good this time... even if he wasn't so gravely injured, exhaustion hurt a lot more than anything else. Although at least after this, he'd finally be able to get a well-deserved sleep - and hopefully, without any nightmares ( ... )

"Don't laugh," Hijikata scolded. He hated the sound of coughing, even now. It reminded him of being very small, very vulnerable, very helpless to stop fate, and very alone. Thirty years old now, and still carrying the scars, even though his parents were long dead and Souji was safe now...pitiful.

He smirked a little, mostly for show, at the obvious displays of discomfort from Gintoki's wolf side. The presence of other male wolves and dogs was still pretty irritating to him when they didn't show proper submissiveness. Gintoki was more of a loner, but that didn't mean he'd be happy with Hijikata doing as he pleased in his own little territory.

The compliment surprised him a little. Scoffing, he pulled out the bandages, found an uninjured point to hold them against to begin with, and began wrapping them snugly around Gintoki. "It's just practice," he grunted.

Gintoki only chuckled weakly once more, the action causing him to cough a little again before he stopped with a slight childish grin playing on his face. "Hai hai, Hijikata-kun... you're acting like my mother-in-law or something with all that nagging that you do," he joked lightly once more. Well, it seemed that his sense of humor was still there, at least. As annoying as it was for others ( ... )

He wasn't bothered by Gintoki's words, but Hijikata rolled his eyes. "You can put up with the 'nagging', or you can keep on bleeding everywhere," he sniped, though he knew he wouldn't just leave the man who'd taken care of his people when he couldn't and helped him kill Kuro, even when it nearly cost him his life. Not unless he got exceptionally annoying, at any rate.

Gintoki's display of pain as the bandages were wrapped was obvious--he could smell it, layered underneath the blood and sweat and spiking upwards now and then. Rolling his eyes, Hijikata smoothed out the section he'd wrapped already and kept going. "Keep still," he muttered. Flinching wasn't going to make this any easier, and reacting like that to pain was shameful for a man as strong as Gintoki.

"I think I'll want as much blood as possible in my body," Gintoki replied with another quiet chuckle, no bouts of coughing coming from him this time around. He didn't hate or loathe this (or any of the other) Hijikatas, really - the freelancer always found them all somewhat amusing in their own ways; his own more amusing (and likable, for obvious reasons) especially. Even if they were different in their own ways they were pretty much similar in the bottom line which Gintoki could somewhat see. None of the Hijikatas would leave people who didn;t deserve it in the church ( ... )
