The last of the kitchen fiddling happened around November 22. So--no kitchen for a full four months. Not a lot of fun. But the result is absolutely beautiful and completely functional. Here's the last of the pictures:
The thing I missed most with no kitchen was the ability to chop fruits and vegetables. This is the first salad I prepared, about a week before it was all done....
This is the dough rising for the first challah. I had loaded up drawers and cabinets, so this was the first time to really see how intuitive it all was. And it was beautifully so.
We had the first Shabbat dinner here on December 2, using both ovens. And said she-heh-he-yanu, too.
The back wall--clearly it's all in use and already needs to be tidied. The china was my grandmother's (z"l).
Here's the tile--matching the front entry. Dave and I spent a Saturday night washing and polishing it. Keep in mind that NEVER in 31 years of marriage has he washed the floor (this is not a complaint, simply a fact). So the fact that he insisted on helping me do this--and then suffered a week of shoulder pain in consequence--says something about how much he likes the floor.
While we were redoing, we got a new dining set. It's beautiful--nicest piece of furniture we'll ever own. But mostly we now have chairs that people can sit in without wondering if they'll end up on the floor.
And those rickety chairs--as you see: ready to hit the trash heap.
