HELP!

I know I've complained about this before, but I'm going to do it again.

so Pandora.com is great for the musical side of songs, but sometimes I want similar content and messages.
I go through phases. This summer it was the southwest and cowboys. I watched bad western movies, and fell in love with tumble weeds and mexican influences. The beginning of this year was Agatha Christie and post WWII England.
Right now I'm fascinated with the Irish immigration and Lowell Mill Girls circa 1830. FASCINATED. and I want to listen to songs whose lyrics are about the people during that time and whose musical aspects reflect popular music of the time. Right now I have 3: "Factory Girl" by the Rolling Stones, "Thousands are Sailing" by the Pogues and "Factory Girls" by Flogging Molly.

any suggestions?

also, books. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn was amazing, and of course, some of my favorite books when I was younger, True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle and the Beyond the Western Sea books (Escape from Home and Lord Kirkle's Money). I would like to read something a little... older? maybe stories written at the time about lower class citizens?

anyway. I would love to take a class on literature music from this time period. it would be amazing, just amazing. I would SO enjoy researching something like this... Why can't UC Berkeley offer classes that are tailored to my interests?

I wish I knew where to start to research this stuff myself.
