Beauty and the Beast Banners

So some of you know that there's an area of my apartment that has been driving me mad ever since we first moved in.  And this is...the stairwell wall.  Our apartment has a vaulted ceiling in the living room, which means that there is an immense, 2-story tall wall on the stairwell side.  And it is completely blank.  The whole rest of the house is decorated, except for that stairwell.

I've been meaning, ever since we moved in, to make a set of banners for that stairwell, but I just never get around to it.  Well, mom and I have resolved to make this our next project, and I have a goal in mind.

I hope to use fabric markers to create a simplified linework artwork of Beauty and the Beast, and applique this onto the banners.  Today I did the sketches for the designs.

The design for Beast was taken directly from the absolutely awe-inspiring picture book illustrated by Angela Barrett.  As I told Tom...part of me hates to have another artist's creative design on my wall, but why reinvent the wheel, when she created the most awesome wheel ever?  :)

So here's the idea.  Each figure will be drawn on white muslin and enclosed in an arch (not this ornate...I found what I could online)

The arches will then be cut out, and appliqued onto the banners.  I am thinking I may add a bit of 3-dimension to them...teeny seed pearls to Beauty's gown, etc.

Really crappy version:

The center banner would then have a crest on it with 4 squares, the initial T, the initial G, a rose, and a castle.  As seen in this rough sketch below:

If we actually succeed, I think this'll be my most ambitious project to date.  :)  But I wanted something really special for that hallway.
