I think I understand the old idium:

..."There's no rest for the wicked".

Well, rather I have always wished I was someone who could be considered "wicked" it just sounds more fun. But no wicked activities were to be my weekend. Rather it was filled with wholesome, very benevolent acts of labor sometimes attributed to helping the down trodden for a greater cause. Or so it would seem. Now, as noble as I want to pretend I am (and I do sometimes). I don't usually jump at the chance to do free labor for people all the time. My one saving grace is once I am actually in the process of actually helping people I feel good about it. Now I can thank my mother for raising me in a way where helping people is traditionally considered fun in my family circle. To my own amusement I was usually the last in my family to jump in on stuff like this probably because I am just lazy. The funny thing is that most the time I helped people I really did have fun.

It was never like a vacation in the tropics type of "fun". But I usually feel better about myself for being being less selfish than I normally I am. I have forgotten the benefit of helping others and sacrificing my time.

Well, despite my lazy tenancies I found myself volunteering with a friend of mine. Yes Saturday morning I was to volunteer at a local homeless shelter just west of downtown. She had arranged to meet some people from a local ZEN community center to make the food and get some of the homeless family's feed. Well as it turns out there was an error in her communication between where we were supposed to be and when. We went to the wrong shelter and missed helping the Zen group. I kind of felt annoyed that the intention was there to help and at this point I wanted to help because I had invested my time for the project. So we helped out at the wrong shelter. And I felt vindicated for the wasted time. I also realized how lucky I am to have employment and good friends.

Well my weekend wasn't super "adventurous" but I had fun in any case.

And for the record I'd rather give money than time. Just so were all on the same page...
