We don't have the same worry about health insurance, though it's starting to creep in as more big companies offer private healthcare schemes.

Suggestion from America: you guys should nip that in the bud and ban it. Allowed to proliferate, it will destroy the NHS, and it's a way of tying employees to employers ("if I leave, I lose my health insurance, because I can't buy it for myself").

I had originally written, "Were I God-Empress of the United States of America, the first things I would do..." but then I thought, "No, no, 'one of the first things I would do..." because before fixing SSMT, I would strike the employer mandate from the ACA and criminalize offering health insurance as a bene.

No employer should be able to use special access to them-only-deals to tie employees to them. Especially by holding life-or-death resources hostage.

ETA: Also it fucks up the risk pools. At the population scale insurance companies work with, employment is an excellent proxy for health; having employer-based risk pools is a dandy way to effectively cherry-pick healthier insureds.
