The landlord is having the trees on the property cut down.
This is incredibly sad and disappointing, and I'd stop him if he could, but he's not wrong that the trees are a threat to his property. They've been attacking the foundation, there's now been the chunk of tree that smashed into the roof, and he tells me that the big oak has been listing, and is at danger of falling on one of the two buildings it's between in a sufficiently bad storm.
They shaded the building I'm in and kept the courtyard cool. The honeylocust smelled fabulous every spring. It's the only
undeclawed honeylocust I ever saw, and therefore a wonder to me.
