never in my life have i been more ashamed to be an american. hotel rwanda is the most powerful movie ive ever seen. i didnt even want to finish it because i thought i was going to throw up. the best part about it is that a similar situation is going on in Darfur and according to Bush after Rwanda nothing like that will ever go on again, or atleast under his watch - way to go you fucking bastard. and its not like this happend 100 years ago..it was in 1994. When i was living my great life in new canaan, over a million people were being killed for no reason. in one of the features of the dvd, they show a site were 45,000 were killed. one room was for kids - they showed all the bodies- all these little innocent rotted away bodies with thier skulls smashed in. The french were aware of this site and wanted to keep it a secret. They dug big holes, filled them with tens of thousands of bodies, covered it up and put in a volleyball court. The only reason this is known is becasue 4 of the 45,000 survived and were able to make people aware. There is one point in the movie where a white journalist captures footage of hundreds of people getting cut apart in the streets and the main character says someting along the lines of "good, now people will want to help" and the journalist replies with "no, im sorry - people will see this and say, oh isnt that horrible, and then go on eating thier dinners." how true it is.
