I've been busy of late, although I don't feel like I'm accomplishing much. I guess it isn't that big of a deal, but at the same time, I'd kind of like to have more to show for whatever it is I did that day. So what's been up?
On Sunday, I saw The Brother's Grimm. Not nearly as great as many other Terry Gilliam movies (Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, or 12 Monkeys, my favorite Sci-Fi movie of the 90's), but nearly as bad as some might have you believe. Sure, the movie never quite knows where it's going. Is it a fairy tale? Is it a comedy? Is it a thriller? Horror? Well, it really ends up being an amalgamation when all is said and done, and, for the most part, it worked well enough for me. It's by far and away the best thing I've ever seen Heath Ledger do, and then throw in Matt Damon and Peter Stormare, and you come away with some very funny sequences. And, while I know that it isn't really Gilliam's style, I do wish there was a bit more of an ending...
Work and school have been okay. I've done well on everything I've actually handed in, and expect to see all A's and B's when my report card comes in, although our semester still has until September 22nd to end. I'm more excited about next semester now though, as I will really be getting into my major at that point, and will also have one less class.
This past week, my body was not feeling well. I did something to my back, and it was hurting whenever I walked... or sat down... or lied down... pretty much it hurt all the time. Then, somehow, I had what I think is the weirdest allergic reaction to anything ever... and I don't even know what the reaction was to. It started last Sunday night, when I worked late to help rearrange the store for the holiday season. Unfortunately, we have one of the dustiest stores in our region, and I THINK that might have something to do with my reaction. Well, I went home, and that night, I noticed that my left eye was itching something fierce, and that it was a little red. When I woke up Monday morning, there was this puffiness around my left eye, and an odd line that went directly from my left eye to the side of my chin. Straight down. Weird. A few days go by, and while the itchiness never really increases, it also looks progressively worse and worse. It's calmed down since then, but it was quite annoying to have my step dad constantly saying, "Wow, what is that?" and the like.
I ordered three books from Barnes and Noble today. It was a little... awkward to say the least. Matt introduced me to a new author the other night, and he seems to be a mixture of William S. Burroughs, Chuck Palahniuk, and Kurt Vonnegut, which makes me happy. Hey, here's an author that is like a mixture of your two favorite authors, and a heroin addict. Have fun. My problem came when I was ordering the books over the phone. The names of the books I ordered are as follows:
So yeah... awkward telling someone that I want to order a book called Razor Wire Pubic Hair... thank god I didn't have to do that face to face... god bless the internet and go bless telephones... helping fat people from being seen for over a generation...
Recently got into the band Wilco. Good, good stuff. They're kind of like a good Radiohead. As opposed to the crappiness that is beeps and boops ;-) That one was for you K.
That's all I got for now... tune in next week when I discuss the philosophy behind and concerning The Matrix, and how we are all related to Superman... or not... probably not...
