Nadia was . . . well, she was kind of bored, actually. She'd woken up some hours earlier, handcuffed to this chair and, it seemed, left entirely to her own devices ( Read more... )

Nadia rolled her eyes. "//Well, I've spent way too long handcuffed into a chair, and I'm pretty sure I have yet another concussion, but other than that? Just. Peachy.//"

Sofia made a soft tsking noise. "//You are so sarcastic. I didn't raise you to be so sarcastic.//"

"//No, you raised me to be the fall girl for your malicious plot . . . whatever the hell that is.//"

"//Is this the part where I explain my nefarious scheme? I'm sorry, I'm not up on all the cliches. I have very little time for watching movies.//"

"//You are decided already. You will not join me willingly. I had so hoped it would not come to this.//"

"//You will be the first. Of a proud new race.//" Sofia smirked. "//Well, perhaps not proud,//" She withdrew a hypodermic needle from a nearby box. "//Hold still. I have no idea if this will hurt.//"

Hold still? Chyeah, right. Nadia totally riffed a move from Sydney waited for Sofia to approach from behind, then jerked hard against the chair and flipped herself up and backwards into the air.

When she crashed down, alas, not on top of Sofia, the welds on the chair (cheaply made, but good products can be so difficult to find these days) snapped, and she whipped one of the metal supports at the hand holding the syringe.

The needle flew across the room and shattered. Sofia aimed a punch at Nadia's jaw.

If it had landed, that might have been a problem. But Nadia blocked the punch and swept a foot out to drop Sofia to the floor.

Once the older woman was down, she raised the metal support to strike another blow when something caught her eye.

A gun.

Much better. She had no desire to beat Sofia to death. She dove for the weapon.

Sofia was in excellent shape, but her age was a disadvantage. She was barely to her knees when Nadia's hand fell on the grip of the gun.

She froze. "//Nadia, you do not want--//"

Nadia turned and immediately shot Sofia in the head.

Then she strode over and emptied the clip into Sofia's body.

"//You're right,//" she told the dead woman. "//You deserved far worse.//" She dropped the emptied weapon and went in search of her things, finding them in a locked cabinet on the far side of the room. She tucked them all away and then went to the door.

Time to leave.

Well, almost.

The door exited into the main floor of the warehouse, the giant red ball still dominating the room.

The man in the glasses, his nose bandaged, came running at Nadia.

Nadia shot him in the head, almost casually, and kept walking to the machinery that ran the giant ball.
