ok i just basically decided i'm going to buy a glock. I got over the ugliness factor. Pretty much the only thing that can reverse this decision now is whether, when I go to some shops and hold it, it feels totally wrong (although I've already been warned that the grip feels like a 2X4... but the advantages outnumber any other semi-auto, from my limited but diligent research on the matter). Havent decided yet whether to go full sized or compact--depends largely on how the full sized one feels. They're both 10 round capacity and cost the same. Also havent decided on 9mm or .40. Again, costs the same. Thus, I'm torn between four models: G17, 19, 22, 23. :) Have any dirt to dish on the gun?

firstly: http://www.thegunzone.com/glock/glock-kb-faq.html

second, have you looked at other pistols along the same line? Personally I have the hots for the springfield XD line of pistols:

On 9mm vs. .40, 9mm is cheaper, but theoretically has less stopping power. If you intend to use the .357 for defense and just want something that is fun and relatively cheap to shoot, I'd go with the 9mm. If you want a bit more stopping power (.40 can be had to have a similar muzzle velocity and slug weight as .45) then I'd go with the .40.

As for compact vs. full size, I don't have much to say other than the compact may fit your hand better and would be more concealable, both of which you already know.

Ive heard about the not-fully-supported feed ramps causing some kbs, but I also heard that only bad and overloaded reloads cause the kbs, and that with regular rounds, the stats should equal any other gun. It's still a concern. I'll have to read more about it. There is the possibility that people are being overly vigilant about a product _because_ it is rumored to be "perfect". If people watched other guns like hawks, would the same stats result? Maybe not. I'll check this out some more. I intend to get a very reliable semi-auto for self-defense to replace my revolver, which is adequate, but clunky in my hands and has three less rounds than would a fullsized (or most compact) semis. Plus, the reload factor... though if I have to reload during a home invasion, my gun rights should be revoked!

thanks :) i'll look at the springfield xd

Ok fuck it, I'm tilting towards springfield. I'm not even that concerned with kbs anymore, though it is a factor in my decision. I'm attracted to the grip safety, ergonomics, and easier takedown, and growing track record of stellar performance.

On the other hand, Glock keeps tempting me with its long-held reputation for beyond-the-call hardiness, law enforcement endorsement, mechanical simplicity, and vast market of accessories and shit.

It's gonna come down to a range test of both guns in January. I'd love to have you come along to see whacha think.

P99 looks awesome, and I actually think it looks prettier and appears to be more comfortable in the hand than the others, and from my research, it's of comparable quality to the others, but I keep reading about certain parts breaking (cracks in polymer frame, magazines crapping out really soon), whereas the others don't have that reputation to a noticeable degree. Also, it's considerably above the glock and springfield price range.
