warped tour 2004.

Aug 20, 2004 01:17

it's a good thing i saw lots and lots of awesome people, or it would have been a total bust.

since i know what time i saw all the bands (thanks to my picture of the schedule) (which i got many many compliments on) i pretty much know what time everything happened. so let's do this chronologically. yes.
7:00am. i wake up. shower. blah blah blah.
8:00am. i leave my house.
9:15am (approximately.) i arrive at gillette stadium. i park in the second row of cars because i am very early. i sit in my car for about a half hour and call people i know who are going to see if they have arrived yet. i didn't want to go in alone, i could get beat up by the tough kids! so i sat and waited. until i saw irene and her friend amy walk by! so i went with them and waited at the gate.

10:00am (approximately.) miss jess calls and says she has arrived, but she is not at the same gate as us. bummer.
10:05am (approximately. it was a few minutes after jess called.) allie calls and says she hasn't left kingston yet. bummer.
10:30-11:00am. they let us in...or so we thought. we go through the gates and find ourselves on the concourse of the stadium. but we can't find a way to get to the parking lot where everything is. everyone in the world called and was all "where are you? ... well we're still in line ... i'll call you back when we're in." i saw jake & courtney. a nice police officer told everyone where to wait to get in. we waited there for a little while. there was all sorts of cheering and clapping and i wanted to see what was going on. since we were right near one of the snack shops and it was closed, i stood up on the counter and checked it out. all i could see were kids. everywhere. and i saw some kids i knew (kati samwell, allie chevrette & keri deming) and there was some crowdsurfing going on. it was entertaining because the kids had no idea how to keep the surfers up. they would go up...everyone would clap and cheer and then they'd promptly be dropped and there would be a "OOOOOO!" then they'd be back up to more clapping and cheering and then they'd be down again. then some security woman yelled at me and said i couldn't stand there so i killed her. then there was some "yankees suck!" chants which are always enjoyable. (and in other news, fenway officially banned anything that says "yankees suck" on it. boo.) anyhoo, then i noticed some...thing crowd surfing. and then i noticed it was a sign i had just seen on the wall before. someone ripped it off the wall and then the piece of cardboard did some surfing. it has a picture of an event staff person and says something like "we're here for you."

11:00am. we are let in! irene, amy and i get right over to the schedule and they wrote it down and i got a picture of it so i could just look at my camera when i needed to know who was playing where and when.

11:20am. miss jess finds us! and wears my sunglasses!

11:45am. fall out boy. they suuuucked. and i don't think it was their fault. the speakers had a horrible sound. and it took two minutes for the sound guy to remember that not only do the mics need to be on, they have to be turned up! some eleven and a half year old punk rock girl informed me which one was pete wents as the band came out. she said he was "the cute one" and pointed him out. i was like "ohhh coooool." here's pete:

right after fob. i saw jocelyn! and then jess and i walked around and looked at stuff because we didn't want to see anyone til sugarcult at 3:15. we saw jillian. i saw hilary banton. i miss that girl a lot. saw one and a half songs of bayside and they sounded great. i was introduced to jess' friend lauren. then i got a text from allie that she was there! so i met her at the tbs booth and i got this crazy feeling when i saw her. like always. oh it's crazy. i like it. a lot. it was the first time i wasn't thinking "ow my ankle really really hurts" all day. then we met a kid named ben who lost his friends. then allie and me and and her friends walked around for a little while. we got something to eat. and i took this picture. because i thought it was funny that when looking at the main stages, if you turn 90 degrees to the right, there is the stadium.

i dont know what time but it was before 3:15pm. allie and i walked around and i saw all sorts of people that i knew like matt and evan and melissa and brittany!
3:15pm. sugarcult. it was the first time i'd ever seen them. they were quite good. tim pagnotta is really awesome. he asked the audience to do the spirit fingers (which is just putting your hands up and wigglin' them digits) and then he was like "that's great! it's like myspace...but better." (they played: stuck in america, she's the blade, daddy's little defect, saying goodbye, memory, crying, what you say, pretty girl, bouncing off the walls.)

um...then more walking around and seeing people i guess? i saw keegan. and becca. and julia and her boy, who i was not introduced too! sad.
4:15pm. saw some of hidden in plain view. they're better than i thought they were.

4:30ish. walked over to see yellowcard for a minute. well, more like i wanted to see the crowd. it looked pretty young and female. shocking.

their violinist guy (on the right with the crazy look on his face) is a cool dude.

4:45pm. the used was supposed to go on. (they were the surprise guest of the day.) i didn't care to see them so i wasn't over at the main stages. from where we were standing we kinda watched letter kills. i had never heard their stuff and i didn't like it much. i was baffled by their singers hair. i couldnt tell if it was only long where it is bleached or if it just looks like that because of the bleach. oh well. here they are:

then we watched the first song of brazil. they're good. i don't remember taking this, but this is them setting up.

5:00pm. allie and i walk over to see coheed & cambria at 5:15. and who is playing? taking back sunday. they switched times with the used at the last second. so i only got to see their last four songs. (the union, you're so last summer, a decade under the influence, cute without the 'e'.) and you know what? they sounded like absolute shit. adam sounded really bad. and the band wasn't anywhere near being tight. it was really disappointing. all the kids know the words to the single and four words of "you're so last summer." ("BLEEDING ON YOUR SHIRT!") lame-o. at least i got to see the infamous adam-climbing-and-hanging.

adam climbing.

adam hanging and singing the end of "cute without the 'e'."

5:15pm. coheed. i only saw the first four songs (in keeping secrets, devil in jersey city, a favor house atlantic, blood red summer) and they sounded real good.

after one song, claudio pointed at this thing here and was like "i'm still waiting for super mario to come out of that thing...WHERE YOU AT SUPER MARIO?"

mario never jumped out. sad sad. then i walked around with allie a little more and decided that my ankle had absolutely enough and it was time for me to go. it really killed me all day. but i tried to not say anything because i didn't want to complain too much.
6:00pm. i say goodbye to allie and leave.

6-7:30pm. i drive home with "the moon is down" and "on a wire."

in my short five year history of attending the warped tour, this was clearly the worst day of the five.
band-wise, anyway.
never have i hung out with and seen so many really awesome people at one single show.
and i probably saw other people that i forgot about. if i forgot you, i'm sorry.
