So we're closing in on the midnight launch of the newest World of Warcraft expansion, Wrath of the Lich King...
...and honestly, I can't remember ever being this excited for the release of a video game.
Part of it is that when the first expansion was released almost two years ago, I wasn't the max level (at the time, 60), and so, I hadn't spent any time at the "endgame." That's totally different from where I am now - I hit 70 (the new max level) last summer, and ever since then, I've been participating in all of the events that come with this. All of these events, by the way, tend to be repetitive and monotonous. Not to mention that they rely on the cooperation of others, whether it's PvP or raiding. So yeah, after a year and a half at "endgame," I'm ready to start over.
And part of it is that I took off the next two days, and this is a great excuse for a vacation. I know what you're thinking - "Oh my God, you're wasting vacation days on a video game?" - and hey, you might be right. But I've been running myself into the ground these last few months, between an increased production schedule at work, a new girlfriend, a re-commitment to writing and making films, and a long volunteer cycle during the Presidential campaign. I deserve a break, and since I'm going out of town over Thanksgiving (the parents and I are either hitting Myrtle Beach or Charleston), this is a great opportunity to decompress and take a little "me time."
Of course, that doesn't mean that I won't be doing other things over the break. Off the top of my head, there's reading my new filmmaking and Final Cut Pro books, writing, spending time with my girl, watching the first UNC basketball game of the year, and catching the Vikings game on Sunday with the crew. But the supplies are gathered, the work has been completed or delayed until Monday, the girlfriend has been informed, the preorder has been complete, the computer has been upgraded, and now... it's time.
So stay tuned to this page, and the Facebook, for the next four days, because I'm going to post all about this "journey" I'm about to take. It won't all be Warcraft - I have some other things planned - but be prepared for screenshots and pictures of myself after 12+ hours of gaming. Oh yeah, and since I now have a Mac, I'm going to capture a lot of footage and start editing a movie chronicling the time I started this expansion (that will take some time to edit, though). Should be a lot of fun...
Yes, I'm a geek, but I'm a proud one. Besides, if I was any other way, I wouldn't be me.
