Some people may have noticed that Star Wars was released again today. This is the event we've all been waiting for. It's the original theatrical and pure versions brought to us on DVD. Courtesy of George Lucas.
Before all you geektastic people out there run out and buy it, consider this: It's not re-mastered. What does this mean? Well, before I decided to buy my 10th copy of this epic masterpiece, I wanted to see that it's up to usual technical standards.
It's not. Apparently, it wasn't worth the time to bring the sound and video up to current standards as was done for the Special Editions. You know, the ones with the crappy endings and added scenes? Yep, not up to those standards.
Why shouldn't you buy it? Because invariably, in a few years, good old george will release another copy of the originals but this time up to current sound and video standards. Yep, that means that 5.1 surround sound system you bought just to hear tie fighters roar past you will actually work for the theatrical version. But not until the next version comes out.
Thank You George for this amazing trilogy, but I'm throwing this fish back and waiting for the real prize.
