While William seemed to be almost gradually secuded to the 'dark side', poor Wesley had no warnings at all..
And the way he's thinking he's an 'abomination' for loving William, and that God send his punishment in form of Angelus. So like Wesley to blame himself for everything. :(
I thought long and hard about writing the scene and decided that we could probably come up with worse things in our minds than I could write. Plus I think it has more impact for not being written.

Poor Wesley! (I actually quite like that you didn't write that scene & instead kept it as a memory, not that it wouldn't have been good to read.)
