Hey Al!
I've been wanting to see both those movies, but since you don't rate them I may just leave it, because I know you have fairly good judgement.
Actually when I went to Newtown to see Chumscrubber there was a full blackout, so it got called off.
I didn't know that the Astor changed hands? What kind of hollywood movies do they have on the calender now? clasics or just shit?
anyway hope all is well!
talk soon

Hi Bridget!
Don't let my opinion get in the way of you wanting to these flicks. Both have received good and bad reviews. But all the same thanks for the compliment on my judgement.

Yeah, late last year there were rumours about the Astor closing down. So the dude who'd been running for the past umpteen years decided to give someone else a shot at running the joint.
They have done a good job restoring it (thank good) and it still has the moody old cat who think may be the real owner ehehe...

I thought The Chumscrubber was okay, not fantastic, but I liked the way it emuated that cut-off-from-everything sensation you get when you're on drugs of one sort or another pretty much all the time. Enjoyed the closing summary too, "Billy learned not to be a bully" etc.
Not too sure about Hard Candy, though - I mean gratuitous torture-fests are all fun and good, in a fashion, but I've heard that aside from an impressive-for-her-age performance by the young female protagonist, it doesn't have a lot going for it.
