Unwelcome Advice

Buffy walked in the door and shrugged her coat off, throwing it down on the couch as she bypassed it on her way to the kitchen to get a glass of water.

It was a little after 4am and she had just finished patrolling. It had been a busy night but she’d taken out four vampires so she was pleased despite the bruises she had collected. She downed the water quickly, refilling her glass and taking a couple of Tylenol to help shake off the headache that was quickly worsening. The last two vamps had been particularly vicious and she had been tired already when the fight began. She had been knocked back and cracked her skull against a headstone, at the time she had shaken it off and gotten back to the fight but now it was catching up with her.

Buffy rubbed at her jaw where another bruise was already forming and put the glass in the sink, more than ready to head up to bed. She turned around and came face to face with Spike.

“Rough night pet?”

She rolled her eyes at him, “You could say that.” She went to walk past him and he grabbed her arm pulling her back.

“You’re all bruised up, gonna be black and blue come morning.”

“Yeah well that seems to come with the job description Spike.”

He took hold of her face, inspecting her bruises and nodded to himself.

“Spike was there something you wanted?” she crossed her arms over her chest and looked at him, her annoyance plain to see.

The blonde vampire finally released her and Buffy took a step back.

“What, I can’t just come over for a chat?”

“When do you ever ‘just come over for a chat’?”

“No time like the present.”

“Seriously, was there something you wanted or can I go to bed now?”

He stared at her for a long moment and Buffy turned away and began to walk off again. She was tired and really couldn’t be bothered with Spike’s games tonight. If he wasn’t going to give her a straight answer then that was his problem.

“Buffy, wait.”

“Going to answer me now?”

“You should put some ice on that you know.”

“What?”

“Your jaw. And your head for that matter. You should put some ice on it before you go to sleep.”

She shook her head unbelieving, “Is that it? Any more words of wisdom for the night? ‘Cause if you’re done I’m going to bed, I’m tired and I’m not really interested in anything you have to say right now.”

“No that’s it,” Spike looked as if he wanted to say something else but stopped himself.

With that she turned away completely and headed upstairs.

When Spike could no longer hear her walking around he looked up at the ceiling, “No Buffy I have nothing left to say to you, not that you want to hear anyway. G’night love, and I wish you’d look after yourself better. I hate seein’ you hurt.”

He ran a hand through his hair and turned to leave, grabbing a cigarette out of his pocket as he did. “Shut up you stupid git, she doesn’t care, and neither should you.” He slammed the door behind him and stalked off into the night.
