John is kinda my stepdad. But he's only 9 years older than me. So...not so much, ya know?
One thing is for sure. He was the luckiest man in all of Houston last night. Sold out show. Dinner at Arista @ Hobby Center (reservations 2 months out) and the loveliest ladies in town!

We got home about 12:30. Tiff and I stayed up till about 1:30 talking. My little sister sure is grown up. And she's only 2 years older than my daughter!!! I'm in deep doo doo, I think.
We had great seats. I was totally bowled over by the performance. Carol Kane was Madam Morrible. I was teary eyed for most of the first act. I mean, my daughter was seeing her first real show. I reacted the same way at the Cyndi Lauper concert. What's even better is that my grown up young lady held my hand.
What I liked best? When I went to "Broadway by the Bay" in SF, people were dressed really casual. I suppose because it was a daytime performance. But it's something I've noticed at operas, musicals and other events that I'd always known to be kind of an "evening wear" occasion. Houston nailed my expectations. Everyone was dressed nicely. Evening wear. Not quite formal, but all the women were in nice dresses and wraps and such and the men all in coats and ties. It was a truly magical evening. Even if Galinda is a FizzleWiz.
As far as the Book vs Musical thing. I think it tied Wicked to The Wizard of Oz so well. The book was darker. The musical somewhat combines several characters. But it also fleshes out some stories that the book leaves out.
I'd picked up ages ago from the soundtrack some of the character differences and storyline. The music paints a very good representation of the storyline of Wicked - The Musical. If you never get to see the show, you can get a pretty good idea. That takes talent.
All in all, I feel pretty fulfilled with regards to the first book I ever read and first musical movie I ever saw. I read The Wizard of Oz before I started Kindergarten. It was my first book. A gift from my grandmother, I wanted to read it so I used it to teach myself to read. I still have the book.
I feel like I really know where everyone started and where everyone ended up.
On an even more personal note, I got to share one of my great loves with my little girl. Now, if we can just get her over this stagefright thing...she may be the next Idina Menzel. *grin*
Aside from a lot of driving and a great show, we spent a few hours on Saturday doing karaoke. Tiff and I did the entire Wicked Soundtrack as well as several other show songs. We also belted out some Janis, some Hilary Duff and, would you believe my son and I did a duet of Eye of the Tiger? It was great.
Keep defying gravity folks!
