Well, thanksgiving was normal. I watched football and talked with family and played with my younger cousins and ate turkey. The only thing that made this year a little different was that my uncle Jimmy had to phone in the celebration, since he was in Lebanon/Syria up until this past Saturday.
The real adventure took place the day after. Earlier in the week it occurred to me that SA Forums would have something about BF deals on DVDs and other things I would be interested in buying. After scanning Best Buy, Circuit City, RadioShack, and Target ads posted/scanned online, I made up a list of things I should buy before noon. At Best Buy, I got Anchorman on DVD for like $6, and at Target I got Season 6 of “the Simpsons” for $15. That’s a 40 dollar set marked down to 3/8th its original price.
While at Best Buy, my brother and I inquired about the purchase of a Sirius satellite radio receiver. I’d seen something about them being only $30 and figured that split between us would be worth the price to try it out. However, when we got there the cheapest was $70. I searched the store for a copy of the newspaper ad, and saw that indeed the sales guy was correct in his quote. XM was $30, but Sirius was not, which left me confused about my confusion. Saturday came, and my mother called from work saying that she heard from someone that RadioShack was having a sale/deal on them, and all the pieces fell into place as I realized that it was A-S who’d advertised it for $30, and not Best Buy. Not only that, but this wasn’t the cheap one but rather the nicer one. So, to clarify:
RadioShack: $30
Best Buy: $100 (one I got)
Yep, I saved 70 bucks by going to R-S, and by splitting it with my brother we each pay only 7 bucks a month for the service (commercial free punk/college/indie-rock/electronica/good-hip-hop). My only gripe is that they advertised that they have Air America, and yet it seems that something has taken place between the printing of their channel guide and now that has resulted in them no longer carrying the radio station. This sucks, since it is one of the reasons why I wanted it in the first place. Their site says they’re on XM, so I’m going to be writing an angry letter to Sirius tomorrow. But it is still a small price to pay for clear reception and good music stations.
I also read “The Shining” by Stephen King, and will update this blog with an analysis of my reading eventually.
Other than that stuff, I still don’t have a job and am very bored. Hasta la vista, yo soy Napoleon!
