i woke seven hours early, at 2100 yesterday. not tired, but a little nauseated. i pissed the morning away on the internet, but at 0415 found myself making a mad dash for the toilet, and losing my cookies four times consecutively, followed by two spasms of dry retching. i was not drunk or hung over.

i went to work feeling like shit, which sometimes happens. within a few hours i was feeling much better. thanks, god, for my immune system. anyway, when i got off work, i walked across the bridge on lombard and looked northward. i could see the headlights of a train sitting still. thinking it was not going to move any time soon, i took a right heading south on the 20 mile loop. i got to the bridge on willamette and looked north again. same train, not going anywhere. though there was a lengthy amtrak train that passed by on my short passage of a small part of the 20 mile. i got a bad photo, but nothing else.

anyway, now on the bridge on willamette, i was getting a whole lot of nothing. i hopped the guard rail and went to the south side. still nothing.

i headed west, but not on the sidewalk- i kept to the edge of the steep embankment separating me from the ravine below. about 60 metres later, i came across a spot where the grade was so gentle, i walked almost half way down. i was shaky, and had an expensive camera in my hand, so i doubled back. i will return tomorrow. from my vantage point, i scored some excellent shots of the railroad bridge. it is also a drawbridge, and it was raised when i took the shots. i got a movie of a barge passing under it while i was there. i missed the movie of the bridge going back down. i heard it happen, but i was not quick enough to run back to see any of the action. no matter.

i may have found a new passage to lower, more exciting ground. i would consider the day to be a resounding success, though i took many pictures and i only consider one of them to be very good.
