Why not start off with “Missing Person.”(рус. "Улица темных лавок") Mr. Modiano is fond of playing with the detective genre, and the book has a sort of film noir setting. He plays with the cliches of the detective novel, and it’s about a detective out on his last case to discover who he really is. I’ve read it in Swedish, French and English. And then I would go for “Dora Bruder,”(рус. "Дора Брюдер") which is about a 15-year old French jewish girl who goes missing in 1941."
