Xbox 360
What I thought about their press conference:
It was very ... green. I thought they skirted the issue of units sold by rambling a bit and playing with Rock Band Beatles for the first 15 mins. I was a disappointed in the lack of steady game play footage, but since they didn't actually come out and mention how well they've done I can forgive them. Project Natal pretty much blew everything else out of my mind so I guess I'd have to say that they did okay. Not as good as last year, but we didn't have game play footage of FFXIII last year either. Thank you for the glimpse at the battle system guys! ^_^
What I'm taking away from it:
Excitement over Project Natal mostly. This looks really promising. I can imagine several adventure-type games where the vocal and facial recognition has so many possibilities. However, I suspect that the 'Milo' interface is run strictly through computer software and probably couldn't fit onto one 360 DVD. Since it's not coming out anytime soon, we'll just have to wait and see what happens with it. Alan Wake and Shadow Complex were probably my favorite two exclusives that I'm excited about. I hope that after years of waiting we finally get to kill monsters with our flashlight in Alan Wake next year. Seriously quit teasing us with this game. Shadow Complex looks like good old-school fun with a new twist. It's from the Gears of War people, it can't be bad.

PS3
What I thought about their press conference:
Sony wins for the best conference. It was smooth, well except for the slight problem with the demo of their motion sensing device. Which seems to be the new thing apparently. Oh Nintendo what have you started!? Anyway, lots of games shown plus a funny with the 'best kept secret of E3' aka the new PSP Go, which I don't know how many people will be willing to spend $250 for. I loved how the audience applauded the Hannah Montana game bundle. That was funny. Favorite thing from this was Uncharted's demo and God of War III's demo. Kratos looks way cool -- you can almost see his muscles flex when he moves. Wow.
What I'm taking away from it:
Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII (even though it wasn't mentioned at the conference). I'll just say that I'm a huge Tetsuya Nomura fan, and that he can do no wrong by me. That having been said: SONY YOU BETTER FIGURE OUT HOW TO FIT THE JAPANESE TRACK ON THE BD OR ELSE I'M BUYING THE 360 VERSION! *innocent grin* Seriously though, this game is gorgeous. I'm very excited about the storyline and how it seem all rebellious like FFVII's. The English trailer made little sense though. I felt that they either lost something in translation or it was thrown together very quickly. It didn't really tell much about the story, but felt more like a mishmosh of cut scenes. Oh and S-E, you really should talk to NaughtyDog about the hair physics. Lightning's hair needs to move when she does. XP
Then there was the Uncharted 2 demo. Wow. Just Wow. I want to see this movie, er play this game. I love Drake -- I love Naughty Dog. I hope that this game is free of some of the odd quirks the first game has. It looks to be more exciting and more immersive than the first one was. Honestly, why hasn't -- no never mind I don't want it to be ruined by Hollywood. (His hair moves while you're playing the game ... cool). Oh yeah, and there's this little game called Assassin's Creed II. I only squealed and jumped up and down when I saw actual game play. :P

Nintendo
What I thought about their press conference:
Well, there was no mention of Pikmin 3 or the new Zelda for the Wii. They talked about mostly games for the family and casual group.
What I'm taking away from it:
Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days (read three hundred fifty eight days over two). This story looks like it's in between KH II and the yet officially started III. The video at the end of KH II makes it look like the Nobodies are fighting the Heartless and possibly each other. Since this game is strictly about Roxas and the Nobodies, it looks like 3 will be along those lines. I am happy.
The new MotionPlus add-on will hopefully make Red Steel 2 a better game than the first.
Also there's Golden Sun DS, Overlord Minions, Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, Mario vs Donkey Kong Minis March Again!, Nostalgia, Sands of Destruction, and Harvest Moon: Sunshine Islands.
They did have Mario and Metroid, which was a HUGE surprise, but that didn't stave my disappointment over Zelda. However, there ended up being a Round Table with Miyamoto-san later on in the week, when he did mention Zelda. Around that same time this was posted by the Penny Arcade guys:

I did feel that way to an extent, but I didn't jump up and down when they showed Metroid. Although I do think that the vitality sensor could be used with survival horror games or stealth games where you have to keep yourself calm. XD

I thought that Nintendo had utterly failed me since they had kind of built up my hopes last year. Then something wonderful happened. This:

Yes, that is Link and his sword is alive. Now I'm jumping up and down. My mind is coming up with so many story possibilities. I'm SO excited that I can't contain myself. This was without a doubt one of THE best E3's ever.

Edit
Interesting side note: I've been waiting for FFXIII now for 3 years. Let's make it one more, shall we? *rolls eyes* This better be one looooooooong game guys.

e3, zelda, games
