It's been quite a month. I know I need to start updating more than once a month, but my computer has died : ( Now when I try to turn it on it just beeps forlornly at me. So my computer time has been severely limited as now I can only check my email and stuff when Jesse is home with his comp.
Items of note:
1. Sadly, we had to give Angus away. He got adopted and is in a new home now, so that is good, but we miss him greatly. We were pretty overwhelmed with him at first, but it's amazing what a few months will do. He turned into such a great dog, so lovey and fun and just a really natural part of our our home. Sadly though he and the cats never managed to improve relations at all. It was constant warfare, and in the end we decided Angus just needed to not live with cats, and the cats really needed to not live with him. So he's in his new home now, and though we miss him it is really good to actually see the cats again. They are so glad to be able to walk through their home without being chased or harassed, and they are feeling extra cuddly since he's been gone, as if they are making up on several months of lost love. As I write this Rory has insinuated myself between me and the laptop, and is resting his head on my right arm and occasionally looking up at me in such a way as to suggest that I might be scritching his chin right now.
2. I love my job. Seriously. No matter what kind of mood I'm in when I leave for work, I'm grinning by the time I've been there 20 minutes. The kids are fantastic. They are so sweet, and cute, and funny, and solemn, and rambunctious. Playing with 3-5 year-olds (or in practices 2 1/2 to 6 year-olds) all day is like playing with a pack of conversant puppies. It's SO fun, and not only that but I'm speaking Japanese all day too. Speaking Japanese all day does in fact create a certain amount of stress, thought. It's pretty tricky to get used to making so many mistakes. No one likes looking like a fool, much less looking like a fool many times every day, but I am bearing up and maybe learning some humility. However my bus broke down (read: exploded) in a very exciting and terrifying way while I was on the highway driving one of my little girls home. So now I drive a minivan instead of the short bus, at least for another month or two till we figure out a new bus.
3. The new house is fantastic! Seriously, it is so homey already. I can't believe we can rent this whole great house for less than we were paying for our two bedroom when we lived in Ann Arbor. Just more proof that Ann Arbor prices are ridiculously conflated.
And now, friends and readers
I'm getting married!
Yep, that's right,
oldstancher and I are making it official. Seeing as it's our 5 year anniversary next month we've probably passed the point of surprising anyone with this news, but it's still making me a little giddy. We had decided that we were getting married next year, but Jesse actually popped the question on Friday, over a fancy dinner and with an actual diamond in hand. He even went down on one knee in the aisle to put it on my hand. It is so beautiful! I haven't been able to take my eyes off it, and Jes says now anytime he wants to distract me he'll just say "Look at your ring!" and I will be completely absorbed. It's an antique, that he bought at the Arcadian in Nichols Arcade in Ann Arbor, which is pretty neat too. We are looking at getting married in early September next year. More details as they develop!
I couldn't get a picture in clear focus, but I'm so eager to show off that I just have to post some...
RingPicSpam!
Okay, that's all the news I have at the moment.
chesire_smile,
saracariad call me back!! I know I can hardly cast aspersions when I am so (very) bad as keeping in touch, but I really want to talk to you both, and not just so I can giggle madly about my good news.
I love you all, seriously. ^_^
