You hit on something about coming up to the surface that I'd never even thought about. How sound travels and you used it in a neat way, not just a passing note.
I also like how there was no big argument or, "I am your leader, you listen to me, do what I say and leave Dagna alone!" Everything overheard is essentially water cooler talk and they still follow the warden and for all intents and purposes, harmless outside of Dagna's feelings.
