Sunday Preach

I am preaching at my church this Sunday. All, believers and non-believers, are welcome to attend. Since its my first full-length preach I am a little nervous and would welcome any support.

For the whole nerves thing, I wonder if its appropriate to picture my audience naked?

When you asked about content, I opened up google and typed in "Current news"... it took me to the BBC website, amongst others, and I started clicking.

All the way through each story I tried to imagine using it as content, if I were in your position - but I just couldn't picture it.

Then I slowly became sidetracked, reading about how the Cloud People of China are threatened; how a Nepalese bus veered off a mountain road and killed at least 14 passengers, with many more still missing; how a new eco-school (dubbed the "Weetabix School" because it's believed that once the children have had their breakfast, they can keep it warm all day) is being built; and about a 12 year old Welsh boy who looks after his disabled father...

And I realised this: firstly, that you had inspired me to move beyond my own, secluded little world, and to realise there's a lot more going on - both good and bad, joyful and heartrending - and if you can do that to me even BEFORE tomorrow, think what you'll be able to inspire in the people who will be listening to you then.

And secondly - I realised that the world has a lot to offer as inspiration in itself; either as things we can learn from (such as ancient civilisations like the Cloud people), or how society works together in times of crisis (such as the rescue workers looking for the missing passengers in Nepal), or how our generation looks to the future (with these eco-friendly plans), or how even the smallest and youngest person can be a hero and make a difference in the world (like that young Carer).

I'm sure that you'll find plenty of inspiration for your content tomorrow - after all, the world is full of it, if you have eyes open to see. And I think your eyes are open :-)

Wednesday, you should be a preacher or motivational speaker or something. That was very good.

Once again, I thank you.

I do have content now. I've been praying and researching and meditating all yesterday with little to show, but this morning its all paying off. You can put it down to sleep and the unconscious resolving things, maybe God has been putting a little pack together while I sleep.

Or maybe its you.

Part of what I'm preaching on is the nature of prayer and what difference that makes in the mind of God (or the cosmic order or whatever you want to call it). That you have done this and thought this through for me is a type of prayer. You have eased my way into my preach. Thank you!
