The Sky is Falling pt.3
Ju-ken and Chacha loaded the car for a trip to the mountain cottage.
“Ok, I think we’re ready,” Ju-ken said. “Let’s go get them.”
“Do we have to?” Chacha asked.
Ju-ken leaned down and kissed Chacha on the nose. “Yes, we have to. It won’t be so bad.”
“You never rode in the car with Kamui…” Chacha murmured as he followed Ju-ken back into the house.
Ju-ken picked up Eneru’s carrier while Chacha got Yu and Kamui and carried them out to the car. It hadn’t been so bad this time; it had only taken both men five minutes to get Kamui in his carrier- one to hold all his legs down, and one to latch the door. Chacha prayed that the ride to the cottage would go as smoothly.
Chacha pulled smoothly out into traffic and drove almost five blocks from home before Kamui started: ”Dad? Dad, come on, Dad. Let me out. I can drive. I can watch the traffic. I can help steer. Come on, Dad. Dad, are you listening Dad? Why can’t I drive? I know the way. Dad, I don’t have to be in here. You can let me out. I’ll help with the brakes. Dad. DAD. DAD. LEMME OUT. DAD.” and only got louder with each passing block.
Ju-ken couldn’t even hear himself think. “Pull over here, Cha.”
Chacha eased the car to the curb, and Ju-ken jumped out. He sprinted quickly down the block and into the vet’s office. “Ryu, give me the strongest tranquilizer you’ve got before he drives us all crazy!”
